Hannover Landtag uses Sennheiser ADN conference system
As the elected representatives of the people, the state parliament (Landtag), situated in Hannover, is the highest constitutional organ of the state of Lower Saxony. The state parliament enacts state laws, decides the state budget and elects the state’s prime minister. In committee meetings that are important to the decision-making process, members of the parliament make themselves heard with the help of a digital ADN conference system from Sennheiser.

Lower Saxony’s state parliament resides at the heart of Hannover in the Leineschloss, a historic building constructed in 1637, which still today retains its classical exterior. The interior, on the other hand, was designed from a purely functional point of view and has more recently gained a new wing of plenary halls. Meeting rooms for the state parliament’s committees and various members’ offices are located in the wings of the historic building and in a modern extension, which was added in the mid-1980s. |
The vote
As part of major restoration work that was completed in the middle of 2011, three rooms in the main building were completely redesigned and since then have been heavily used as committee rooms. The interior acoustics meet high standards, and the daylight ambience fosters concentrated work. One of the restoration measures taken was to equip the rooms with modern conference technology. The tender for this, put out by Public Project Management Hannover, was won by Seis Akustik GmbH, based in Gehrden-Everloh.
The solution selected was the digital ADN conference system from Sennheiser, whose delegate units – with their timelessly elegant design, simple one-button operation and clear-cut lines – now grace the conference rooms’ tables. All of the units remain permanently on the tables. A wireless discussion system in the conference rooms was explicitly rejected for security reasons.
The top candidates
Every two seats share an ADN D1 delegate unit and each room also has an ADN C1 chairperson unit. Flexible gooseneck microphones with low-feedback, super-cardioid Sennheiser capsules ensure that disruptive ambient noise is effectively attenuated. DSP-based limiters prevent overload. A twin-loudspeaker system in each unit ensures optimum speech intelligibility.

The number of microphones that can be used simultaneously is stored, together with other parameters, in the ADN CU1 central unit. Each committee room has its own central unit, which is stored in a separate control room. An ADN CU1 can control a maximum of 400 units and can directly power up to 40 units. A graphics-capable display allows easy access to all important parameters and there is the option to operate the system via the particularly intuitive “Conference Manager” software. The software, along with PC, is integrated in the 19” device so that it is only necessary to connect a monitor, mouse and keyboard.
Additional radio links (Sennheiser ew 100 G3) are available in the state parliament for use when needed and include both hand-held transmitters and a combination of clip-on microphones and bodypack transmitters.

Part of Seis Akustik’s duties in the state parliament also included modernising the conference technology in two committee rooms in the extension. This involved replacing an existing Sennheiser SDC 8200 set-up with a digital ADN solution. “Because all the committee rooms are now equipped with identical units, the delegates do not need to spend time getting used to operating them,” explained Siegfried Pautsch, sales representative at Seis Akustik. The system consultants from Gehrden had already been involved in the installation of media equipment in the large plenary hall in the past. The committee rooms were equipped or refitted at the start of 2011; the project manager for Seis Akustik was Rainer Krause. |
The election winner
The fact that Sennheiser, a company based in Lower Saxony, is represented in the state parliament “on its own front doorstep”, seems at first glance to be consistent and politically desirable – this did not play a role in the public tender, however. “We try to find the best possible solutions for our customers,” states Siegfried Pautsch. “In the field of conference technology, Sennheiser is our first choice.“
